Couple charged in cat drowning

An Alexandria couple was charged with animal cruelty after allegedly drowning their cat in the Potomac River.

After receiving a complaint from a concerned veterinarian Oct. 2, animal control officers began an investigation involving a cat in dire need of medical attention. The cat, a 3-year-old male named Morris, was suffering from a painful urinary blockage that, if left untreated, would have resulted in death.

Police discovered that the couple allegedly drowned Morris in the Potomac River. They charged Ama Baffoe, 25, and TJ Wilson, 32, both of 3336 Lockheed Blvd. in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County, with animal cruelty on Monday, Oct. 13.

The Fairfax County Police Department Animal Services Division urges pet owners faced with the terminal illness of an animal to consult their veterinarian or to seek emergency veterinary clinics for after-hours advice. County residents may call the Fairfax County Animal Shelter at 703-830-1100 to learn about services the shelter can provide.
